Cleanest and least expensive base load generation

Utility owned micro hydro is one of the cleanest and least expensive base load generation assets. Our utility customers rely on a number of hydro generating facilities like this one to help maintain the diversity of the system, providing local, firm baseload power to help firm the renewables on the system.

In 2020, Wheeler Power systems upgraded the 33 year old Manti Upper Hydro plant in Manti Canyon.

This is a run of the river hydrogeneration plant with 1MW capacity. It provides power to UMPA for its member cities of Manti, Nephi, Spanish Fork, Levan, and Provo.

Wheeler Power Systems reconditioned the turbine and generator and provided new hydraulics, added security with offsite surveillance, a state-of-the-art fire protection system, new switchgear, integration with UMPA’s existing SCADA system, and remote control and monitoring from their dispatch center.
